Barcelona: The Watchmen

The Watchmen

This is the last of the photos from the Barcelona series that I am currently posting.

It is my take on the famous chimneys by Gaudi. This is a set of chimney stacks on top of a building several stories high designed by Gaudi. Not sure they are actually used as chimneys (I doubt it).

The masks are about the right size to fit over a human head made from a ceramic material. Several correspondents in Flickr have suggested a similarity to Star Wars characters; I can see their point, if there is any plagurism going on here though, then Lucas copied Gaudi not the other way around!

Imposing n'est pas?

New theme tomorrow, not sure what it will be yet, but I am open to suggestions.

I love the smooth lines of the "masks" and the color contrast of the white and the blue of the sky(?)

I absolutely love all of your Barcelona photos. I'm just back from being there this week and because it was business, didn't get a chance to really explore. Your pictures really make up for that. Great job!

I really like the different "expressions" on each face. The eyes are wonderful.

Am I mistaken, or did I see these guys in the latest Star Wars?

Excellent work Ian. They are so majestic yet cute. Look at those expressions on their gigantic faces :)
I love the contrast between the colours of the chimneys and the purpley blue skies..
Great one.

The chimneys are wonderful! I cannot even imagine what this building looks like in totality... the chimneys are surreal. I said I was excited to see Barcelona in the details, and you have surpassed my hopes. What a rich series. :)

Wow, the colour of the sky and the contrast of the wood is wonderful. At first these faces seem imposing as you say, but they grow on you after awhile.

I love all the curves and shapes in these things--this really does make me want to see what the rest of the building looks like, as k murphy j said... Can't wait to see what you have in store for us tomorrow! :)

These are really neat -- they almost seem to me like whistles though!

I find the "mouths" so interesting -- I keep feeling tempted to try to figure out what each one is saying. The one on the left I'm quite sure is saying, "No Way!" They all have a very "minds made up" look! You find the most interesting subjects, Ian.

Thank you all - I do feel a little like a cheat, since much of th eimpact here is Gaudi's work!
