Flickr Favs: Midstream Challenger

Midstream Challenger

This was put onto Flickr shortly after my Scrapyard pictures which were not too well received, so I thought I would post one of my pretty pictures. :-)

This swan just landed when I took this and I was pleased to be able to capture it especially because I had to anticipate with the chronic shutter lag on my compact Olympus C50Z. Though I managed to blow some of the highlights (a sin in digital since they are irrecoverable) I particularly like the reflection - what do you think?

Position of the wings and a raised water make it a great moment.

Gorgeous. I love swans and this is a beautiful shot, especially the puffed up wings and the water ripples around him.

I also like the reflections - I like the reflection better then the bird.

As for the scrapyard photos - I thought they were some of your best work.

I love the water in this one. From the reflection of the swan to the ripples & the wake he left when he landed. It shows great movement.

just some slightly over exposed spot on the wing but yea, like what you have mentioned, the reflection alone is worth the posting. I like the orange beak as well.. kinda brings out some contrast to the photo :)

Thank you all for your kind comments.

It is the reflection that makes this.

Joel - it seems the issue of shutter lag has struck a chord with you too! I find it really difficult now returning to my digicam since my D70 has no appreciable lag.
